# droid (0-droid.net)

A droid is a robot, especially one from Star Wars. People say it casually to mean any android or automated helper.

## What a model may hear
- Android operating system (mobile development): assume the user wants to build or debug an Android app, or target an Android device
- Droid font family (typography and design): switch to discussing the old Google font set or rendering on Android screens
- robotics platform or hardware (robotics and maker communities): assume the user refers to a physical robot kit or ROS-based droid project
- trademarked brand (legal and marketing): flag that 'Droid' is a Verizon trademark and steer clear of infringement advice

## Where people and models part ways
- Says: "My droid keeps crashing"
Means: my phone or tablet app keeps failing
May be taken as: the model asks for Android logcats or suggests developer tools the person lacks
Say instead: "My Android phone app keeps crashing"
- Says: "I want to build a droid"
Means: I want to make a Star Wars-style robot costume or toy
May be taken as: the model outputs Android app boilerplate or robotics SDK setup
Say instead: "I want to build a Star Wars robot costume"
- Says: "Use the droid font"
Means: use the font from the old phone ads
May be taken as: the model warns about trademark violation or suggests unavailable typefaces
Say instead: "Use the open-source Droid Sans font or a similar free alternative"

## Tips
- Say 'Android' when you mean the phone system, not 'droid'
- Say 'robot' when you mean a physical machine, unless you want Android results
- Mention 'Star Wars' if that is the context you intend
- Specify 'font' and add 'Sans' or 'Serif' if you mean the typeface family
- Avoid 'droid' alone in prompts about mobile development

## Often confused with
- android: the full operating system name, not the casual shorthand
- robot: no operating system or trademark baggage
- bot: software agent, not hardware or a phone
- drone: flying machine, not a walking or talking robot
- Droid: the capitalized trademark, legally distinct
